Wimps Vendredi Gras - Covington; 2/24/2023-2/25/2023 (La Trompette): A producer I know nothing about, and when my fellow diner kept on talking about this as their "entry level" I was evidently being, if not lied to, misled somewhat. Served from magnum - evidently it was not sold in any other format, this was just great. A hint of brett, just enough to bring some excitement, and a lovely savoury character, super acidity - it's not trying to be northern rhone but thrilling like good syrah can be. A real treat.
Thanksgiving Dinner 2022: Tasted blind (1.5L), one sniff and I was immediately transported to Rhone. I initially began in S. Rhone, but then migrated to Cote-Rotie. The Viognier in the blend is a dead ringer for N. Rhone. Interestingly enough, this was tasted next to a magnum of Guigal d'Ampuis '12 and the Cayuse tasted more authentically Cote-Rotie than the d'Ampuis.

Nice wine , all the Cayuse things going on here , 4 hours of air toned the “ aneemaal” down a little, saved 1/2 for tonight. 2nd night , also good , did not develope into more of a wine.

Drank over the 4th of July weekend. Really good Cayuse juice, smooth fruit forward mid palate with nice long finish. Two more bottles left and this has high potential to develop into something really special.

Pop and pour from magnum. This is showing well with barnyard, fermented berries, wintergreen, and salty river rocks that remain well into the finish.
