Community Tasting Notes (6) Avg Score: 90 points

  • Translucent ruby color; medium bodied. First glass through a Venturi. Red berries and sour cherries, with a hint of stems. Acidity stronger than the fruit, for sure. Finished quite long, but mostly front and mid-palate. If I had tasted blind, I’d have guessed minor Burgundy, not Oregon. Paired with cheese board, for which it wasn’t bad, but not too fun to sip on its own. Hope it’s a 2013 thing (cold year?) and not a feature of this vineyard, as I have three later vintages waiting to try.

  • PnP into Zalto Burgundy, followed for a few hours.

Nose is mature with lots of damp leaves, forest floor, maybe a hint of dried cherries. Palate is very lively with tons of acid and bright cherries. Finish is a good balance between ripe strawberries, subtle but angular tannins, and "fresh" earth.

Drink now--this is in a great place. Could probably cellar this for another 3-5 years. There's a good amount of fruit and tons of acid to hold things together for some more time.

  • PNP, drank over 2 nights. Savory cherry and strawberry aromatics. Bright fruit flavor. Finish is a bit astringent, but that’s my only detractor.

  • Pop and pour. Strong fruit upon front Cherry with a little tartness but not much on the backend making the wine feel a little thin, lacks complexity, Good but certainly not great wine.

Improved on day 2, not as tart and a more rounded longer finish. Score change to reflect the improvement.

  • This wine delivers a layered and complex expression of Meredith Mitchell terroir, conveyed through slate and mineral driven elements. Austere and elegant fruit, notes of juniper and sage, powerful and precise acid, juicy and very long. The standout among a flight of four Winderlea Pinot Noir offerings.
