  • Purchased at the winery while on holiday and drunk a week later on 8/29/15 to celebrate several birthdays.

Color is good with some very light yellow hues. Tastes of crisp green apple, white chalk, and yeast. A bit of ginger bread, which I find appealing. Has a fair amount of acidity, which corresponds well with the apple-like element noted previously. Apricot flavors are noted too especially toward the middle and finish of palate. Also an apple-like after finish remains in the palate for quite sometime.

And lastly, as part of full disclosure: I prefer my sparking wines to have a combo of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, etc., so my overall score reflects this bias.

NB - Fascinating to taste British sparkling wines. Aging on lees seemed to be one of the biggest differences between the limited sample of wineries visited. Could not confirm whether or not the French are purchasing land in this area. Area seems interested in the biodynamic concept and applicability to the wineries.

Also, how do I put this: for those who travel to the UK, please be mindful of older vintages of UK sparklers (not Ridgeview) that are floating around. Purchased an older sparkling wine at a reputable merchant in London several years back and it seemed like it was fully mature at time of sale. I would have preferred something younger to taste and to bring back to the States. Now this is not an issue everywhere, but just something to think about when one is looking at sparking wines to bring home to taste soon thereafter.
