Cellar orphan inherited from a big event two years ago. Big wine but not quite the Mae West it used to be--the massive oak remains noticeable but is more integrated and the fruit's calmed down. Plenty of structure for continued cellaring if you can take the oak.

Not bad. Good fruit, some oak treatment on the nose: a touch of toast and tropical fruit. On the palate, reasonable acidity, and nice body. Good patio sipper, but not much complexity.

This was the most-talked about white in the room among 74 tasters last Friday night. Handsome, heavy bottle, classy label, and big California-esque oak and nearly-tropical ripeness on the palate. Mango, pineapple and yellow apple, big rich mouthfeel and an impressive finish. And only $7 at Trader Joe's??? Even someone who prefers leaner, more sedate wines (me) has to admire the QPR here. Doesn''t seem possible.
