  • Exploring the dry wines of Weiser-Kunstler, I drank this against the 2017 Steffensberg. Golden straw color. Richer yellow than I expected, but pure. Interestingly, the Steffensberg is more transparent and crystalline in appearance (perhaps due to age as its 3 years younger). On the nose, very precise. Citrus driven with notes of melon and honey with great minerality and salinity. The palate is quite tight, full bodied and round (more so than the Steffensberg) with great balance. Very dry (more so than the Steffensberg). I’m actually wanted a little residual sugar here, but that might just be what I’m used to with these wines. Bitter lemon (rind) and wet stones. High acid. Mouth puckering and powerful. Texture is velvety. Taste young to me and could open more and develop with some additional bottle age. Finish has really incredible length and leaves a sour lemon/citrus flavor and is slightly drying/bitter. Really interesting and powerful, precise, balanced wine. I’m impressed and interested in tasting this in the future.

  • Better showing than my last bottle. Distinctly mineral and saline, but with soft nectarine, wild flowers, and sweet herbs. Not a wine that showed the racy acidity I expected, but a pleasure to drink.

  • PnP, then drunk over two evenings.
    Light golden yellow, clear.
Tight nose, a bit of pear, otherwise herbal and mineral. Light and elegant.
Tight on the palate too. This is all minerality and acidity and walks a tightrope next to plain austerity. On the second day (perhaps as the temperature was increasing in the glass) it gained a bit of juiciness. Shall it open up in the future?

  • Hugely mineral and savory. This may have been a slightly off bottle though, because the fruit was very lean and minimalist. I am anxious to try another bottle, so hopefully see what this wine is really made of.
