Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: First tasting in 2021 (@home): Glass: Zalto Universal Tasted blind. Popped and poured, drunk over three days. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium intense, youthful nose. Easily identifiable as a Mosel Riesling with its sweet ripe fruit, the mix of noticeable Sulphur and slate. Extremely young and not fully developed. “Mosel dry”, noticeable residual sugar. High, racy acidity, 12% abv. Exotic fruit, guava, apricot, very mineral. Elegant, good tension. Lacks a bit of depth and body. Long, elegant, fruity finish. Not even close to its full peak, needs probably 3-5+ years. 91-92+

I do not know what to say about this wine, which I temember I loved when I bought it in 2017. It is not dry, at least in taste - contrary to what the label indicates. It does not have the tension of a kabinett. It is just a rather halfdry wine lacking acidity, perhaps because of the vintage.

A really interesting wine. I'm becoming a huge fan of these wines. There is a creamed rock quality to them that I really love. That is, they can have a gentleness and roundness on the palate but with intense notes of crushed stone. This particular wine was dry but not severe with a saline and herbal density without being ponderous. The fruit is more from families of heirloom apples rather than citrus or peach. Very cool. I need to step up my exploration of these wines.
