  • Tasty but very big for Savigonon Blanc. Shows notes of citrus pith, grapefruit, banana, and lemon with a pleasant creaminess on the palate. I liked it but I dont think I would pay full price for it.

  • Rudd Estates (Zurich): Comprehensive tasting of the Rudd Estates lineup (Sauvignon Blanc, Edge Hill Chardonnay, Samatha’s, Estate Red). Coming from a hillside location on Mount Veeder this is cooler and fresher than your average Napa Sauvignon Blanc. The acidity is more pronounced with an overall character mix between Sancerre and Napa Valley. We tasted the 2014-2017 which are ok to good but without any exceptionalism. Yes, it is the intention of the estate to craft a Sauvignon Blanc with higher acidity but I found the acidity not to be that round and perfectly integrated. But they certainly have some ageing potential and might be better with 10 or 15 years of age.

TN: Lots of grassy and herbal notes, spearmint, crushed rocks, tropical fruit. Pleasant aroma profile with fairly good precision. Medium- concentration with a slightly too high and not very well integrated acidity. The texture has some sharp edges. Medium length. Maybe better in 5 years?

  • Beautiful floral notes coupled with citrus flavours evolved as the bottle was open. At first, very acidic and one dimensional. But give it ten minutes and those complex flavours started to become quite evident.

  • Pale Straw yellow. Nose of pineapple and citrus (mostly lemon and lime). Taste is very similar but with notes of dry quarry rock and some honeysuckle. Lime and hay dominate the finish. Medium plus body and very dry. Compared to my personal gold standard of Merry Edwards, it is less viscous and sweet. About 92-93. Not the greatest QPR for a Sauvignon Blanc.

  • This is a massive Sauvignon Blanc. Initially not open for business and just starting to show its potential during the start of the 3rd hour. This immediately reminded me of a Kongsgaard Chard. No mistaken this for old world. Big up front and slightly disjointed throughout. Finish is average at best. With all that said, still intriguing to sip and hardly ever boring. This should reach prime in 5 plus years and last for a long time. This wine would benefit from decanting.
