  • Pretty, surprisingly floral, peppery, refreshing, and very smooth. A bit lightweight, the aromatics are very nice with air but one guest found the mid-palate too quiet to be compelling. Very nice, and not hurting from its age, but not improving from it either.

  • There is Grüner Veltliner, then there is F.X. Pichler’s expression of this often bland grape variety- here in the form of Smaragd f Loibenberg w a wee bit of age. Senstional wine in all aspects. Shiny, clear & bright golden in appearance. Aromatic, complex nose featuring delicate & balanced scents of vibrant citrus, honey, white pepper, nuts, smoke, pear & peach w only a micro-presence of petrol. Concentrated & sweet & spicy-styled m+-bodied palate, so alive & kicking, excellent acidity & depth, vibrant & textural! Finishing w a citrus-saline, lingering kick!

  • From 75cl, good cork. Opened 2 hours, but best immediately after poooping the cork. Untypical jasmine and incense hints on the perfume-store nose; the entry is silky-smooth and relatively light-bodied for a Smaragd; the mid-palate sorely lacks grip, muscle, saline or mineral action. Far too ethereal for the Wiener Schnitzel I served this with, it might perhaps do better either with really sharp, strong spices; szechuan food, perhaps, or something emollient with cream sauce? 88–89P

  • From 75cl, good cork. Simple, pure, perfumed GV Smaragd without the textural finesse or depth of better vintages. Underripe green melon and white pepper action on the mid-palate, some green-clorophyll bitterness towards the finish. It helped a crispy Wiener Schnitzel slip down just fine. 89P

  • Cremig, aber nicht fett, typisch, nuanciert, nicht knochentrocken
