  • Another bottle that was a pure treat. It is so good for being exactly what it is. If you get lost in ranking frenzy you will miss how good this is. If you want a benchmark for evaluating higher level Margaux start here.

  • Chateau D'Issan makes 4 Bordeaux wines : the Troisième Cru Classé Chateau d'Issan; an AOC Margaux Blasan D'Issan (a second wine); Le Haut-Médoc d'Issan, AOC Haut-Médoc and a Bordeaux Supérieur Moulin d'Issan. This Haut-Médoc tastes exactly like what it calls itself. One would not mistake it for anything other than an Haut-Médoc. It is not an AOC Margaux and even less a Troisième Cru Classé Chateau d'Issan. And it is clearly a step above a Bordeaux Supérieur. I do not expect it to be a Lexus or a Camry, nor a Corolla. Tonight's bottle was a great companion for grilled lamb chops. That means it still has enough structure to stand up to grilled meat. It has the matured elegance of southern Haut-Médoc as one expects from d'Issan and they do it just right as they do their Troisième Cru Classé and have done in my experience since 1966. Pure, simple, elegant delight. Not close to the end.
