  • For a wine that is supposed to be on its last legs, I was quite impressed with the nose and fruit forward taste. I did not experience the hot pepper sensation that the prior review noted. Rather I noticed an overall pleasant wine, although I will agree at this time it is a bit one dimensional. Perhaps that is the curse of age.

  • A good table wine. Had with spaghetti and meat sauce. Absolutely must decant this wine about 30 to 60 min if you want to blow off the hot pepper zing (zin) that hides the fruit. This is a somewhat one dimensional wine with a juicy black currant fruit that lasts about 30 sec on the palate once it's had the chance to aerate. There's not much of this stuff around, I purchased it at the winery. Alas, it's all gone as this was my last bottle.

  • With spaghetti and meat sauce. This wine (only 289 case produced) from my friend John Benish's vineyard and winery is unique. Located on the Napa River north of St. Helena the vineyard is full of obsidian "black glass" left from the time when Wappo Indians made arrowheads by river. A very full flavored zin with out any alcoholic harshness. This wine should improve with time. Winemaker Chris Darden has a magical touch and the imported Italian glass bottles make this wine a tasters delight.
