  • Texas Wine School Wines of Italy Class. Medium (+) ruby. The nose is medium (+) in intensity, with red cherry, violets and some oak spice. The palate is dry, with medium acidity, medium alcohol (13%) and medium tannins. Overall, this is a nicely balanced, medium-bodied wine with medium finish and flavor intensity. A solid, classic example of its kind, which is drinking well now and should continue to do so for several more years.

  • Aged for 10 months in 6000-liter French oak casks. 13% alcohol.

Dark, youthful black cherry color with a hint of purple hue. Quite restrained yet enjoyably sophisticated Barbera nose with bright aromas of sour cherries, some tart red fruits, a little bit of fresh blueberries and a hint of blackberry. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and crunchy on the palate with intense flavors of ripe blackberries, tangy sour cherries, some crunchy red currants, a little bit of juicy bilberries and a hint of sappy herbal spice. The wine is nicely structured with its high acidity and pretty light and mellow tannins, but the mouthfeel is velvety smooth and very pleasant despite the bright acidity. The finish is dry, acid-driven and crunchy with juicy yet quite elegant flavors of peppery spice, some ripe blackberries, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness and a hint of brmably black raspberries.

A very nice, balanced and tasty Barbera with a lot of depth, good crunchy fruit and great acidity. A classically built effort that combines the playful, acid-driven nature of Barbera with more serious, layered and complex expression of fruit. Drinking wonderfully now, yet shows potential for future development. A lovely example of well-made single-vineyard Barbera.
