Deep dark purplish red with slight brick color with a distinct watery edge. Bright nose is of rich red fruit, with hints of oak and loamy minerality. The palate is dry, soft, relatively well-balanced with some unresolved tannins (which suggest that there’s plenty of life left in this), easy drinking, medium-weight, feminine, on the upper end of the medium-bodied, but the fruit component tasted a little bit more diluted than what I would prefer. The flavor profile includes dark red and blue fruits, vegetal notes, dried leaves, cedar, mild oak, meat (think rare beef), a bit of animal, and loamy earth. It seems that this is not as fruity but has taken on a more grown-up vibe since the I last had this 5 years ago. Overall, this is a well-made wine though a little bit simple.
Day 2 - Seems to have picked up some weight, also a little more integration and sweeter. Day 3 - Very soft and super smooth, mild fruit and a bit of silky tannins peeping through.

Blackish purple in color with a slight watery edge and a beautiful floral inflected fruity nose, a certain earthiness with considerable cedar and oak. This well structured wine is medium full-bodied in weight with notes of luscious yet savory reddish and dark blue fruits, a good bit of tannins, meat, earthy minerals complemented by a generous amount of cedary oak. This second wine of Chateau Sociando-Mallet is still very young but drinkable now with a few hours of decanting but much better on the second day. Although this is not the most complex wine in the world, this 2014 red pretty much delievers all the important features that one can ever wish for in a quality everyday Bordeaux red. In sum, this is bargain given the quality versus the price. Will certainly buy more.

Not in its best drinking window. Too much alcohol. Still good, especially on the second and third day.
