served with easter dinner at ellen and louis' house. shared with pat, louis, ellen, mario and aurora. paired with lamb roast. i had been tracking this wine erroneously as i had mistakenly posted purchase to pinin riserva. further confusion was caused by the fact that ct did not map correctly to winesearcher as there was lack of specificity with regard to product information. curious that the reserva has a shorther projected longevity than the non-reserva. this bottle showed some funk upon opening which blew off with thirty minutes of air. nevertheless, the fruit remained muted and overshadowed by tannin and wood. the wine smoothed out and put on some weight with additional air but never showed the power that i expect from barolo. not sure about longevity. will try the next one in a year. this bottle was served alongside 2018 90+ cellars barolo lot 26 provided by louis and was decanted. both wines were in the same ball park.

Aromatic, but slightly musty/muddled nose of pressed flowers, baked black cherries, spice and dominated by oak. Full-bodied with moderately high acidity and tannin. The palate is likewise muddled. Perhaps its a little too old, perhaps its the abundance of oak, but this lacks elegance and refinement. Was fine with a bistecca Fiorentina 88

This was sadly my last bottle. I thought these were fading so I drank the last two close together, but I think the second to last one must have just been an off bottle because this last one was fantastic. I think this is right in the drinking window and cannot imagine it getting any better. Everything you could want from a base Barolo in my opinion.
