I’ve opened a bottle of O’Brien the last 5-7yrs for Valentine’s as the names (Romance of the Heart, Seduction, etc) coincide with the holiday.
Oddly enough, I opened this up Valentine’s Day and then the TX winter storm of a generation hit. After we stayed in our house for 36hrs with no power and the interior got to 39degrees, we had a place to go and left. I left the second half of this bottle on the countertop and came back to it a few days later after a full 3days being open (under vaccu-seal). Initially, this was very tight, showing a lot of powdered cocoa over dark fruits with a hint of cedar. Shockingly, after coming home, this mellowed out the tannins and showed a much more balanced fruit profile...red, blue and black fruit. Currant, slightly savory with plenty of dark cocoa and mocha. Classically 2013 in style with grippy tannins and a very concentrated core. The time in bottle obviously benefited it. If opening now, decant at least 3+hrs.

Solid 93 on the second night. A bit tight and fruit was hiding on the first night. At its best, there is dark red fruit that is cocoa dusted. Lush, dusty mouthfeel. Some earth char notes on the finish. Held back slightly by a clipped finish and an overall impression that the whole doesn't quite live up to the parts. My last bottle but thinking 2-3 years might really have this bottle come together.
Fruit forward velvety cab with a nice tannin backbone. Dark fruited with a reasonably long lively finish. I think this is entering its prime drinking window.

Opened 90 minutes before drinking over 8-9 hours. A big boy fruit forward can but still young. Compared to two other 2005 cabs, this was a 21-year old colt learning its way around the pen. It was lighter in body. Stand alone for drinking and fell back somewhat during dinner. Looking forward to trying again in a few years, maybe a decade.
