  • Very tight on opening, but opens up with some air. Bright, lemony nose. Crisp and clean on the palate with the citrus notes again in the forefront. Finish a bit short. All in all, I expected something a bit rounder and more mouth-filling. Nice but not a superstar. Saved a glass for 2d night -- did not gas. The wine had totally fallen apart.

  • I am much more impressed with this wine than I expected to be. Bought on release for $42.99. Perfectly mature at this point, IMO. Med gold color. Aromas of typical, fine Meursault - thought still reserved, and not full-blown: faint lemon with a whiff of caramel / honey. In the mouth, good underlying acid - providing structure, detail, and a bit of a lift; slightly honeyed - a characteristic which rounds it out nicely. Good length, with a finish that is at once full and crisp. Nothing oxidized or flabby about this one. Very nice wine - from a producer that often receives marginal enthusiasm... I guess about five or six years in the cellar are quite flattering for this one. The '96 Clos des Perrieres bottling from Grivault, on release, was a bit austere, thought fresh and clean. Almost Chablis-like. I wonder if it has come around and may be showing as well as Grivault's "regular" Perrieres bottling, noted here...
