Ridiculous price for a Bourgogne but truly a stunning wine. Needed a couple of hours to get going but it had the beguiling nose that only Burgundy possesses. Definitely much better in a Zalto Burgundy compared to a universal glass. Slight VA that gave a high-toned, high-pitched nose that signalled its pedigree, no signs of oak. Muscular in style but still delicate at the same time because of the cool red fruit that dominated the palate. Only quibble was that it faded a little from the midpalate to the finish. A beautifully integrated and balanced wine.

For me this remains the most engaging nose of all, at Bourgogne level. Less funk than last year, perhaps bottle variation; bright violet predominates, with a little earth. Addictive. On pnp, the mid palate is a suggestion of strawberry and black fruit, harmoniously combining with a drying light tannin with good length.

The perfect Bourgogne. It provides more than a hint of what Cathiard delivers at 1er cru level, but arguably should stand in the same rank. Heady perfume, violets and funk, with a chalky tannin to carry it all through to a decent length. Another few years will be interesting.

As usual a Sylvain Cathiard Bourgogne that punches way above the rest. Fragrant nose with a hint of barnyard, some mid-palate weight, some violet, some earth, but all balanced and focussed and simply great. Allegedly from a plot next to Clos Vougeot; so, Chambolle or Flagey?

At Vianney Massot. A really delicious Bourgogne - this was real class. The nose was really pretty, with bright blueberry fruit, perfumed violets, and little bits of bramble, spice and earthy mineral. The palate was lithe and light on its feet, with a lovely focused beam of blueberry and wild berry fruit seasoned with more of those floral and spice accents on the midpalate, and then a surprisingly long, intense finish with a lick of minerally earth on it. There was a real sense of intensity to it for a Bourgogne. Delicious stuff, drinking beautifully now, especially after an hour or so of air.
