From a bottle that was open for 2+ years and it was fantastic to the very end. Lightly roasted coffee, hazelnut and a bit of orange rind. Really clean and pure. Fresh and lively with loads of acidity but totally in balance. Great stuff. Bottled 2017.

Drunk from a 3 month old bottle via a single nip pour (I did add a bit more when the sommelier wasn't looking as he left the bottle on the table - is that wrong?). Truly remarkable survivor of a wine. Cola, fig, burnt smoky element. Just very deep and exceedingly ridiculously long finish. Could have just smelt it the whole night. How can it be so defined and so balanced? This isn't even last century wine, it is the century before that. Before my grandparents were born and I'm old(ish). Before powered flight. Just drinking it makes me contemplative of all the progress and all the bloodshed of humanity over this period whilst this liquid sat in its little bottle.

Madeira Pilgrimage; 2/1/2016-2/4/2016 (Madeira): A real treat to taste. I get some orange peel, honeycomb, caramel and green coffee aromas. So pure and smooth on the palate, I can't believe how balanced and precise this wine is. Filled with tobacco, peppper, floral spice, roasted chestnut and coffee bean. No real fruit here, but the other flavors are rocking and the wine stays bright and tangy. Long finish with notes of mineral and quinine. Wow.
