Macerated for approximately 10 days with the skins. Aged for over 3 years, of which approximately 2 years in Slavonian oak barrels.
Luminous, quite translucent pomegranate color. Fragrant yet somewhat restrained nose with ripe aromas of sweet black cherries, some orange zest tones, a little bit of juicy red fruits, light tar notes and a hint of dried figs. The wine is full-bodied, ripe and somewhat sweet-toned with flavors of succulent dark plums and sweet black cherries, some fragrant Asian spices, a little bit of ripe strawberry, light earthy tones and a hint of dried fig. The medium acidity doesn't feel high enough to lend the wine good freshness and focus, so it feels rather soft and easy despite the quite firm and grippy tannins. The finish is moderately long, quite grippy and somewhat warm with ripe and juicy aftertaste of sweet black cherries, some dark-toned fruits, a little bit of Asian spices and a hint of peppery spice.
A firm and grippy but also quite ripe, soft and sweet-toned Barolo that lacks the focus and energy of a good Nebbiolo. Overall the wine feels a bit better than the Alessandro Rivetto Barbaresco, but by a rather small margin. Although not particularly oaky or Californian in style, this is still too soft, sweet-toned and easy style of Barolo for my taste. Most likely will peak within the next 4-6 years. Pretty generic and feels a bit pricey for the quality at the ex-cellar price of 12,80€.
