The wine was good but slightly over the peak already. Balsamic note is getting more evident and interferes with fruitiness and floral tone. Acidity is getting lower and the tannins are silky, still a little drying. Time to drink up quickly.

-- double-decanted approx. 10 hours before tasting -- -- tasted a single pour, blind, over approx. 20 minutes --
NOSE: red licorice; hint of mint; second-favorite Nose of the flight, behind only the Vietti.
BODY: bricking garnet color of medium depth; medium bodied
TASTE: medium-fine tannins are very drying; tight; slight vegetal/oxidized note; hint of sweetness; red-fruited (strawberry); my runner-up of the flight. {same bottle as Robert Pavlovich's note on same date}

Fairly closed aromatics compared to the other 11's in the flight, but you do get a sense of deep pitched, concentrated dark red fruit and black cherry. A bit sweeter than the Vietti Ravera, but also very compelling with concentrated dark fruit, along with good freshness and spice. A real treat to drink these two Ravera's side by side, with the Vietti squarely on the savory/traditional side, and the Cogno leaning modern.

The 2011 Barolo Bricco Pernice embodies the hallmarks of this warm vintage. The wine is markedly aromatic and approachable at this stage, showing rich red fruit that airs on the sweeter side of the spectrum. The bouquet delivers red cherry, strawberry, spice and violet aromas that blossom with time in the glass. There’s extraordinary concentration of flavor and fine tannins on the palate, leading into an elongated, mineral-laced finish. Drink now or hold.
