Kleur: Middel goudgeel. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 92/100
Colour: Medium golden yellow. Aroma / bouquet: Remarkably lush Napa-Chardonnay in a pleasant but now tertiary phase. Butter, a remnant of citrus fruit, overripe pineapple, vanilla and a serious touch of wood. Taste / Aftertaste: Limited freshness, creamy mouthfeel, not unpleasant but now unwieldy and tiring and therefore miles away from the drinking experience that this wine still offered me in 2018. General / potential: Over the top, no longer optimal, but pleasant, not great anymore. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Taste / Aftertaste: 17 + General / potential: 8 = 92/100

Aromas of papaya, mango, banana, lemon meringue and touch of vanilla. Flavors of vanilla, mango, papaya, pineapple and nutmeg. Ends with a big tropical fruit finish of 30 seconds. This is tasting very young and drinking very well. Tre scalini has a very cold cellar.

I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying eight vintages of this wine dating back to 2008. For the most part, I’ve consumed them within five years of the vintage. Recently, I’ve held a couple of vintages longer in order to gage their longevity. I’m happy to report at seven years this is drinking wonderfully with enough fruit, acidity and presence to age for another 2-3 years.
This particular bottle was enjoyed with baked Atlantic Cod, over brown rice and broccoli, smothered with a queso cheese sauce. The wine seems to be in the latter stages of development as the color has transitioned from medium lemon to medium gold; displays many clusters of ripe, juicy fruits (red apples, lemon custard, poached pear, peach cobbler, mixed tropical fruits); complex secondary notes of sweet baking spices, creamy butterscotch, creme brûlée and a slightly sour minerality; well balanced with still fresh fruits, well integrated oak, and persistent acidity; and a lengthy finish which held up to the fish and cheese sauce. Shafer never allows this to undergo MLF and ages this in a combination of both oak and stainless, on the lees, for 15 months with weekly battronage…thus the freshness of fruits, combined with full bodied presence and intensity. Drink through 2024+.

Exceptional, drinking beautiful right now - classic full bodied Napa Chardonnay. There is good amount of Oak but well integrated, - long finish.

We waited too long to uncork. Some vibrancy has been lost.
