  • After a bad bottle 2 years ago we today crossed paths with something Special. We always had the theory that this wine albeit superb in its youth aged badly. But nothing better than been proven wrong .
Evolved but very much alive and vibrant, secondary on the fruit but still with enough bright citrus , remnants of oak in its elevage, soft honey, candied lemon. Not your classic assyrtiko gives the oaky past but very special and the 100yr old vines do give it a depth of flavour that is really special . A great 93-94

  • Not as exciting as when we had it 6 months ago ( Papies 92) but still as solid. We served this not at optimum conditions hence we will not rate but one cannot argue this is not a wine of real quality. Dense, waxy, really old vignes here. Still a decent amount of wine, citrus, ripe citrus fruits , solid depth. 90-91 feeling on the day but would rate on another day

  • This is now blossoming and developing and its really a special wine and really unique expression of assyrtiko.
The oak is now well assimilated and just adds to the wine, light oxitative, light honey touches, candied lemon, mineral, layered and with a waxy feel on the palate. Its a bit of a cross of a classic assyrtiko with a hermitage blanc if we can express it as such. Real depth here and a wine to meditate on. Really difficult to call the evolution of this wine and when its best to drink ( much like Hermitage/CDP whites). We definitely like some freshness in the wine rather than in full evolution and also the oxidative side worried us if it will overpower the wine in the future once the freshness goes. We plan to follow it along the way! A super special wine. 92-93 form us

RIP Haridimos Hatzidakis , a privilege to have met and tasted with you, you tried so hard and got this far but in the end it didn't really matter

  • Maybe the wine is young and needs its time to shed the puppy fat but for the moment it is a bit on the sweet and oak side, something that robs the wine of the usual intensity and depth we saw in 2012 and 2011. Granted a bit of a concept wine but we feel its pushing the sweet envelope a bit too much. Still very good but nowhere near the potential of 100#= year vines from santorini. 90
