Geja's 44th Annual Wine Tasting Contest (Geja's Cafe, Chicago): Double blind. Aromas of warm spice, raspberry fruit. Supple, with a good bit of spice and berry fruit. Medium tannins with dark berry fruit. I struggled a lot with this one, thinking perhaps a bigger style of CA pinot, maybe barbera, but there's not enough acid. Often times when I struggle with a red it ends up being tempranillo, so that's what I guessed here...2013 Numanthia. Zinfandel never entered my mind, though rereading the first part of my note, it was right there for me.
