Method: splash decanted off sediment; Grassl 1855; 58 degrees
Look: medium ruby with very slight bricking
Nose: rhubarb, roast beef, dried beef, well done BBQ ribs, darker cherry in the background, light herbs (bay leaf?)
Palate: cherry, rhubarb, BBQ char; long finish blood orange, beef jerky, well done BBQ ribs, dried herbs/bay leaf; dry; medium body; low+ super integrated velvet tannins; medium+ acidity
Overall thoughts: Excellent mouthfeel as usual from Baron and a complex collection of super savory and interesting flavors. I'm a big fan of Baron's wines, but this disappointed compared to other bottles as I feel the "char" note I get isn't sufficiently balanced out by other flavors, like fruit. No reason to age this further for me. Great wine.
Update: I gave this 91 points at first, but after about 40 minute in the decanter, it opened up nicely with some cherry to balance out the savory notes fairly well. Give it a bit of air. Excellent!

Not as mean as the bottle in 2021 but the the mean-green thing is nonetheless painful (and not TCA). Underneath that: black licorice. Drank a glass with our lamb chops but dumped the rest of the bottle after dinner. There's certainly nothing even remotely resembling the good, "nearly perfect" wine praised here by EX-RAY. I feel robbed.

Horsepower continues to surprise and disappoint, Ive had profound bottles that were multilayered beauties and others that I would honestly dump down the drain. This bottle was kind of in between, it started out with a slight fizzy, soda taste, which was the bad Horsepower Ive experienced but after a couple of hours it started to smooth out and be solid. Maybe after a couple more hours of air it would get to that profound stage again. The amount Ive spend on my 5 years of allocations aren't looking like its worth it.

Third time tasting this year, last bottle. Tasting note is the same as two months ago: Nearly perfect, except for some bitterness late palate and aftertaste, which took a couple of hours to blow off. Very deep and rich aromas and flavors, mainly dark fruits, with overtones of oak, in a Northern Rhone single vintage style. It remained strong on the third evening, no sign of fading, but it had developed a pronounced herbal component which I really liked. A fabulous wine, fully mature, but I'm sure it will be just as great five years from now. Ric
