Mature, with an aged rust color and smoldering, musty aromas, but holding it's own. Dried currant, dusty red berry and sage with a hint of spearmint, but there's an alcoholic edge at midpalate which detracts from the wine. An abrupt, leathery and dry finish marked by lean, noticable cherry at the end. Basically I just flat out waited too long to drink this. Best wine poured at private event at the old Niebaum-Coppola facility before they moved into the Chateau Souverain property in Sonoma. Personalized note from "2009 Wine Enthuiast Winemaker of the Year", Scott McLeod on the bottle. Drink up.

Upon opening, aromas of fig, plum, and cherry filled the air. You could smell this from across the room. Initially in the glass, this wine showed more fig, plum, cherry aromas along with nuances of cedar, eucalyptus, and some haunting notes of Indian spices. This was then decanted for 3-4 hours, and the aromas were much more focused and intense than upon opening, with much more spice on the nose. The palate was ripe plums, blackberries followed by tobacco and a background of fresh seasoned bread. Ultra silky texture complemented the spice very nicely. The balance was superb. The only reason I don't give this wine a higher score is the fact that this wine fell apart after one night. The next day, it was acidic and tannic (almost unpleasent sensation in the mouth).

Solid, great bottle after holding in a cellar for a while. Softened somewhat from the aging, but still well structured.

Had for one year as gift in dec 2003. Very hearty, 14%, easily drinkable for 2 persons with prime rib. Beautiful bottle. Elegant wine
