14.5% alcohol; top-of-the-line real cork with a maximum of 14 mm wine penetration; instead of foil, there is a strip of heavy paper protecting the cork; although it looks like an Italian tax stamp, it simply carries information about the alcohol content and the fact that 13,800 bottles were produced, a surprisingly high number for a wine at this price point; the cork has a pleasant aroma of vanilla, oak, and stone fruit; we're so used to cheap-o glued-together composite corks, that fine real cork is an unexpected treat; medium legs, dark red/purple/brown; nose of alcohol, sweet/sour cherries, prunes, raisins, quince, a little pepper, trace of cloves & cinnamon; opened at room temperature (26 degrees C), vinturied, poured, and tasted about 45 minutes after pouring; first impression is that it is a full-bodied wine packing tannins backed up by wood -- soft, old wood, tendng toward what the Germans call 'morsches Holz'; there is a bit of bitterness and minerality about this wine that may not have been originally present; sweetness and fruitiness are reduced, all the way to the long finish; it is still drinkable but there is really nothing to pair it with; no rating is assigned; I notice that more than half of Cellartrackers who purchased this wine still have it in their cellars; better drink it soon

Usually not so much a Cab Franc fan, but this was excellent with a slow roasted Greek-style lamb (like this https://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/greek-style-leg-lamb). They recommended a Chinon, which I didn't have on hand. Soft tannins, vibrant dark cherry fruits - a magnificent match for a complex dish!

10/18/2014 - CasaHernandez Does not like this wine:
Very disappointed. Bottle is either past prime or soured. A little metallic up front. No finish. Flat.
