Method: double decanted for sediment and consumed about 2 hours later; 62 degrees; Cab glass
Look: medium garnet with slight rust at the edge; few faster legs
Nose: strawberry, milk chocolate, light violet, cedar, potting soil?, and some notes I can't quite place
Palate: cherry, raspberry, violet, green olive / olive brine, light roast beef; medium finish of black pepper, dried sage, cedar, olive brine; dry; medium body; medium velvety tannin; medium+ acidity
Overall thoughts: Complex win with good balance, very nice structure, and pretty solid body. Great wine with more life left.

Open attractive nose with earthy and mineral tones, the palate is velvety and smooth, hints of sour black currant, light but deep liquorice flavours with hints of salt. Medium to medium minus acidity, long lingering aftertaste. An elegant and beautiful wine, which is drinking well now but will last.

I don't often disagree with the BurgundyAl, but I thought this was showing quite wel compared to his experience a couple of years ago. Deep garnet color, rich black currants with graphite and earthiness. Medium full bodied and fine integrated tannins, It definitely didn't show young, but not near the end at all. The fill was well up in the neck and the cork was perfect so maybe I got lucky or others got unlucky, but still a winner to me for several more years.

Drinking well, tannins have fully resolved. Still a fair amount of fruit and decent acidity but likely will not improve further. Should hold several more years but no need to wait. Classic aged Bordeaux.

(La Fleur de Gay) Smoking bottle. Last two showed some green elements and were a little short in the fruit department. This bottle delivered the Pomerol goods. Vibrant deeply fruited nose. Raspberry bouquet galore. Very cakey I kept saying. Sexy wine with rich, concentrated, yet fresh fruit (high acidity). Supple texture and plummy too. Just fantastic. Dusty tannins and a much more youthful showing than the previous two bottles. I would drink this now as it is great and since my previous variabilty it seems to me you should drink this upo while it is in a good place.
(Fleur de Gay) Just cracked a '98 Fleur de Gay and it is smoking. '98 right bank is just an unconscious vintage. l'Evangile, La Fleur Petrus, Ausone, Clos l'Eglise, Petrus are just some of the standouts. This wine has new oak but it really works well with the other components of the wine. Clove, cinnamon, sweet pea, paprika, cedar, plum, spice box, slight herbaceousness (that totally works). Palate is elegant with perfect balance and sufficent concentration. Five years ago this wine was unyielding but today it is a sexy Pomerol beast. Long finish and great integration. Yes in Bordeaux sometimes they over use oak but here it is judicously used. A great wine. Will hold my final bottle for five maybe ten more years. The herbaceousness reminded me of a '90 Le Pin had earlier this year. And NO I am not just bragging and dropping that I had Le Pin. It really did...
(Château La Fleur de Gay) Earthy, mushroom and beef bouillon nose; lovely, balanced, elegant tart red fruit and meat jus, tart cherries palate; medium-plus finish 93+ pts.
(La Fleur du Gay) Great nose of cocoa, mint, plums, cherry skins, grilld meat, hickory smoke, vanilla, sawdust. Very aromatic. Very primary in the mouth with bright fruit and snappy acidity. Flavors of currants and berries on almost a grill. Very smokey and kind of all over the place in the mouth. Needs at least five years to integrate. If you drink now needs 10 hours in a decanter minimum. Nice though.

Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Easily seen as from Bordeaux. soft, easy and nicely rounded. Pleasant and well balanced, but I thought it 5-10 years older than 1998. Drink up.
