Rockss and Fruit

(La Fleur de Gay) Smoking bottle. Last two showed some green elements and were a little short in the fruit department. This bottle delivered the Pomerol goods. Vibrant deeply fruited nose. Raspberry bouquet galore. Very cakey I kept saying. Sexy wine with rich, concentrated, yet fresh fruit (high acidity). Supple texture and plummy too. Just fantastic. Dusty tannins and a much more youthful showing than the previous two bottles. I would drink this now as it is great and since my previous variabilty it seems to me you should drink this upo while it is in a good place.

(Fleur de Gay) Just cracked a '98 Fleur de Gay and it is smoking. '98 right bank is just an unconscious vintage. l'Evangile, La Fleur Petrus, Ausone, Clos l'Eglise, Petrus are just some of the standouts. This wine has new oak but it really works well with the other components of the wine. Clove, cinnamon, sweet pea, paprika, cedar, plum, spice box, slight herbaceousness (that totally works). Palate is elegant with perfect balance and sufficent concentration. Five years ago this wine was unyielding but today it is a sexy Pomerol beast. Long finish and great integration. Yes in Bordeaux sometimes they over use oak but here it is judicously used. A great wine. Will hold my final bottle for five maybe ten more years. The herbaceousness reminded me of a '90 Le Pin had earlier this year. And NO I am not just bragging and dropping that I had Le Pin. It really did...

(La Fleur du Gay) Great nose of cocoa, mint, plums, cherry skins, grilld meat, hickory smoke, vanilla, sawdust. Very aromatic. Very primary in the mouth with bright fruit and snappy acidity. Flavors of currants and berries on almost a grill. Very smokey and kind of all over the place in the mouth. Needs at least five years to integrate. If you drink now needs 10 hours in a decanter minimum. Nice though.
