Darkish amber. Scents of flowers and fruit, but it the palate that really grabs you. Fresher than you'd expect if this was German TBA or Sauternes. Floral honeyed fruit with a firm backbone. Not marmaladey, and not particularly bortytised-tasting to me. Apricots, oranges and lychees. The Gewurz lychee/rose element is not at all OTT though. Powerful acids balance the sugars. Long finish echoing the fruit and roses and honey. A delight to sip at. Beautiful wine. 97+

Visits to Two Alsatian Classics-Trimbach and Hugel; 4/19/2013-4/21/2013 (Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr): Intense white grapefruit and lychee scents. Very sweet and unctuous, yet fantastic feel and flavors of crystallized ginger in addition to the fruit. Somehow it avoids being over the top, and the finish is virtually endless. Brilliant winemaking to harness this quixotic varietal into something really profound and special.

Incredible complexity: super ripe tropical fuit, dried apricots and oranges, spices, vanilla, honey, noble rot. Viscous and yet balanced and with perfect acidity to keep it going.

Intoxicating lifted nose of honey, spice, mango, quince and botrytis. Has the identifiable unctuous oiliness of Gewurztraminer as well as intense sweetness but also some amazing acid to cleanse and somehow harmonise the elements and leave the palate refreshed for the next sip. Among the top dessert wines I had last year, if not the best.
