  • I am not sure if those professional reviewers actually tasted this wine. This built and built in the glass gorgeous brick purple color very long cinnamon, rose petal, strawberry nose just a wonderful wine really turned the corner at hour 1.

  • A very smooth and drinkable Barolo. This was med to full body, small fruits and essence of minerals with relaxed tannins.

  • Intense and expressive aromas of red rose with accents of iodine and alcohol. On the palate, chocolate and vanilla notes mix with dark red fruits, licorice, cinnamon and iodine. Medium bodied, and leaning modern with stylish oak and its early, forward appeal. The tannins are fairly strong and active, though they allow for fair to good drinkability for me. PnP. Over two hours.

I did find elevated alcohol to be an issue, constantly having to cool down the wine towards cellar temp. The outgoing chocolate and vanilla flavors were also not to my tastes, though the wine overall does seem to showcase Serralunga pretty well, intense in every way (aromas, acid, alcohol, tannin). Paired pretty well with Carne Asada. Would recommend holding a few years.

Day 2: All is much better integrated and more drinkable. However, the modern, international style is what resonates.

  • 2012 Barolo Check-in Dinner: A beautiful traditionally made Barolo. Beautiful aromas of fresh red cherry, florals and tar. A real vibrant nose. Palate delivers with so much energy and intensity. Giving and generous now, in an elegant style.
