Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 88.2 points

  • Ruby color with ochre arc. Powerful fruity arome, red berries, raspberry, blueberry, ripen apple, hints of wood. Full-bodied, sweet, fruity taste, blackberry, cherry, gooseberry, hints of spices and tobacco, in long aftertaste velvet tannins, good acidity. Well-balanced smooth and sweet non-usual Saint-Estephe. Drink right now. 88 points.

  • Open 6 hours. Fruit is too thin to support the heavy tannins, and burnt cedar and tobacco give a bit of a bite. There is a lovely finish all the same and the wine maintains an elegance and balance. St. Estèphe muscle and grip, but on a lithe frame. A few years might make this a fine and balanced wine, provided the burnt notes that lurk in the glass mellow to warmth. I think it a good value at $20, and look forward to opening another bottle in a few years.

  • Popped and aerated in bottle for 2 hours. Medium-plus intensity to the garnet hue. Nose redolent of fruit and cedar, with notes of earth, pencil lead, smoke, and a touch of haystack adding complexity. Medium-plus body. Fruit is quite fresh on the palate and features nice flavors of blackberry, black currant, and prominent notes of toasted oak. Notes of cigar-box and just a hint of green add additional nuances to the fine, somewhat chalky tannins that carry through on the finish (above average length). I would undoubtedly consider this wine to be a QPR selection in the often very expensive world of Bordeaux. Drinking wonderfully with aeration but will go for years and could eventually warrant 90+ points.

Tasted April 11, 2009 at a retail tasting.

Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of briar patch, cigar box and a bit of vanilla. Flavors of berries and cherries. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannins, medium body. Still pretty tight so no rating. I'd recommend holding.

  • France vs. Italy: International Showdown (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had burnt wood, cherry, and blackberry. The palate had toasted oak, blackberry, and a cherry finish.
