  • PnP'ed. Very floral nose - peaches/nectarines, flowers, pineapples and a whiff of petrol. Lots of density/intensity on the palate, but wishing the freshness/acidity even higher to counter-balance the sweetness. Really miss the Kabinetts of old... Had this beside a btl of '13 Quintarelli Classico Superiore and it surprised even myself that we/I finished the Quin ahead of this (the sweetness being the inhibitor preventing us from drinking this any faster)!

  • WSET blinds; 5/15/2017-6/11/2017 (Chicago, IL): #02-16, 7.5% abv. The nose on this showed a little more sponti than I would expect for a Willi Schaefer -- in fact, there was something more like the stereotypical Pruem of old. All that aside, there is a nice honeyed touch, that seems to indicate that there's going to be a nice touch of sweetness on the palate, but in fact, that sweetness also isn't as potent as I remember it being. If anything, perhaps the acidic structure here pokes out a little too much. Perhaps this is starting to enter its dumb phase?

  • Megan's 30th (Chicago, IL): #02-16, 7.5% abv. Yet another stunning wine from one of the best German wineries. While I am yet to be convinced that the vintage is as hyperbolically good as so many have said, I can't argue that this is a stunning bottle of Kabinett. There is that classic pineapple gummi-bear note on nose, with just a touch of reduction, along with a subtle touch of florals and green apple. The palate shows some serious focus, and the minerality and acidity both contribute to the tension here. Just sweet enough to hold everything in check.
