Pop and pour. From Grassl Cru. Transparent light ruby with pale garnet to watery rim. Initial bottle funk which blew off in short order. Earthy notes on the nose with mushroom and vegetal tones. Light body with fine tannic structure and dried cherry on the palate. Acid is prominent but still within balance. After several hours the acidity does recede and sour red fruit notes are more evident. On the finish, earthy notes pervade.

Brought to Russ and Kate Mother’s Day bbq. Didnt love this. Felt the burn on the nose and a bit of butter tannins without balance of fruit. I didn’t love this but hoping it’s a bad bottle or my palate wasn’t in the right place to appreciate.

3 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Nice minerality and traces of Burg funk. Palate: Still bright acids and soft tannins. Lots of crunchy cherries and apple flavors. Almost perfumy tasting this last bottle has evolved well. Could age longer but it’s ready to roll now and at peak for my palate.

Quite an enjoyable bottle. Light, elegant, not super complex. Plenty of acidity without being too much. Red fruit notes on the palate and the nose. Medium finish. Good QPR at $23.

Second bottle was much better! Especially on the second day. Had it after coming home from St. Louis.
