Tried it at OperaWine 2018 in Verona. Hard to believe, but this is much more intense and complex than the regular Ben Rye' bottling. Only released in exceptional vintages, this is still quite youthful and just at the beginning of its optimal drinking window. WS 93 in 2016.

Bought at auction for some ridiculously low price. Regularly one of my favorites. This 750ml 2008 limited edition was far deeper in color than younger vintages I have tried, almost mahogany. Slightly oxidative notes of caramel, but awash in its intoxicating aromas of dried peaches and apricots, sweet baking spices and even a pleasant medicinal aspect. Acidity and sweetness were in balance, which was a relief as that was my chief worry with trying a older bottle. Nectar of the gods for sure.

What an incredible nose, starting with spiced orange, mango, and dried peaches, then turning to dried flowers, exotic spices and honey. On the palate, I found rich, luxurious textures, yet perfectly fresh, with ripe stone fruits, dried orange, clove, allspice, white cherry and hints of mango. It was incredibly long on the finish with notes of raisin, dried peaches, apricot...frankly you can go on and on and on.
