  • Grapes sourced from the Gallina vineyard in Neive. Fermented and macerated in stainless steel. Aged for 18 months in small oak barriques and further 6 months in bottles before release. 14% alcohol. Annual production 1,300 bottles and 1,000 magnums.

Translucent, luminous raspberry red color. Ripe, complex and rather sweet nose with aromas of sour cherries, some raspberries, a little bit of wild strawberries, a hint of ripe red fuits, a touch of sweet, cardamom-driven baking spice and a sweet whiff of strawberry jam. The wine feels quite full-bodied, velvety smooth and quite firm and chewy on the palate with quite clean flavors of licorice, dark cherries, earthiness, some tar, a little bit of peppery spice and perhaps a slightest hint of balloon rubber - perhaps a touch of reduction here? The structure is quite portentous with moderately high acidity and pretty frim and grippy tannins. The finish is long and more savory than sweet with flavors of earthiness, smoke, ripe blackberries, sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of oak spice and a hint of salt-cured beef. The tannins make the wine finish on a grippy and slightly astringent note.

A very structured, serious and impressive Barbaresco that is still painfully young. Surprisingly pure and fruit-driven despite being aged in barriques instead of bottis - there is very little, if any, oak characteristics there and the emphasis is on pure Nebbiolo fruit. Most likely the wine will need a lot more time in the cellar before the structure starts to resolve; fortunately, the wine seems to be built for the long haul. very lovely, serious and structure-driven style. Highly recommended.
