  • Aerated to decanter 30 minutes (perfect), served non-blind. Still good to go, with only a trace sign of age. Aromas skew toward Amarone - raisin, cassis, toffee and black earth. Full-bodied, but still lifted, with a lovely cascade of ripe black fruits on the lengthy finish. Complex on the nose, and very compatible with tonight's grilled ribeye. 14% abv, the last from a case purchased on release. Another 3-4 solid years ahead if cellared properly. recommended

  • PnP. Unlike the bottle I had 7 months ago, this was ready to go the moment the cork was pulled. In a perfect place right now, the core is a medium brick red, with fading all the way to the rim. Complex, deeply alluring nose of fig paste, raisins, blueberry confit, raspberry liqueur, lovely red floral perfume and blackberry coulis. The palate is full-bodied, with cheeky acids that sneak up under the heft of the red, black and blue fruits barely managing to lift them to the surface. Long, dark chocolate and prune danish on the finish. recommended, 14,0% abv, drink thru 2014

  • consistent tn's. Consumed with the pork chop at Houston's in Irvine, a good, but not great paring. In fairness, this was a PnP and should have been given an hour's air to show some more complexity. As it was, it an average showing. Full-bodied, smooth tannins, soft with a size-able frame. Drink thru 2014, 14,0% abv. Only a few remain from the original case I picked up in 2007

  • PnP. This is at or just slightly past peak, showing very well right now. Medium-dark ruby core, little sign of age. The nose opens with dust, notes of smoke, dark chocolate, bits of toffee and pomegranate. Herbs and campfire make their way out with some airtime. While the palate initially opens as medium-bodied, this is quick to add weight with minimal airtime, oak and grape tannins are grippy, round and pleasant. There is a sense of place and variety here that compounds the purity of fruit, making this a recommended purchase. Having said all this, it still can't trump the 2000, but for the $30 I bought it for, it's most enjoyable. Drink thru 2014, 14,0% abv.

  • Slow O for 2 hours, decanted for aeration 4 hours, consumed over two days. Ruby core with three wide transitions, clear watery edge. Sexy perfumed nose of melted chocolates poured over a bowl of ripe red and black berries, kirsch, maple syrup, brown sugar, fig paste and torrefacted vanilla. The thick, viscous palate is broadly layered, but the well of acidity providing superior lift. Flavors of juicy plum, blackberry pie, chocolate covered coffee bean, and creamy oak. 30 second finish, terrific structure. 99% as good on day #2. Drink thru 2014, 14,0% abv. I've followed this wine/producer since the 2000 release and am a big fan.
