Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 91 points

  • Ruby to garnet, medium (+) color intensity, medium (+) viscosity, with thick, glass-staining legs. The nose is clean and developed (-), with just a hint of oxidation and reductive aromas. The nose is Port-like, with aromas of dried figs, chocolate, red fruit, spice and a hint of savory, sweet balsamic aromas. The palate is dry, with medium (+) acidity, medium (+) alcohol at 14% and medium (++) tannins. The glycerin is medium (+) smooth and the minerality is medium. This is a medium (+) to full-bodied wine made in a Ripasso style. It is balanced, with medium (+) to intense flavors and moderately long to long finish. It is a fairly unique wine which takes Montepulciano d' Abbruzzo to an entirely different plane. Drink now or through 2015 for optimal results, but it would be interesting to see whether it would go as long as an Amarone.

  • Needs about 3 hours in the decantert to fully open up. Good nose with lots of dark cherry and a bit of fennel. Ripe, amarone-style fruit. Cherries, dried herbs - a little porty in style but loads of ripe fruit. A bit of tannin still on the finish. This would keep a few more years yet.

  • In an Amarone/Ripasso style and quite delicious for that. Dense and dark, ripe and forthcoming with chocolate, cherries and herbs on the nose. Lush fruit, rich cherries flavour with a hint of bitterness in the background. More Ripasso style than Amarone now but certainly not sweet on the finish like some of them can be. My style of Italian wine.
