  • A touch off the last bottle, not quite a svelte and integrated but nonetheless a pleasure and gained complexity with time in the glass.

Burgundian for its sous bois, soft red fruit, clean gentle integrating acidity and fine tannins.

  • Refined aged old vine grenache. Beguilingly soft and medium bodied but so complex with many layers of clean red fruit - cranberry, wild strawberry and cherry. The fruit is seamlessly woven with mild pepper spice, wood smoke and wet stone granite minerality.

Continually evolves in the glass. Glorious and will continue to drink well for many more years.

  • 2015 The Sadie Family Die Ouwingerdreeks 'Soldaat' Red Pleasant aromas of wild forest berries, herbs, smoke and undergrowth underscored by mineral, stems and crushed stone with a raspberry compote and pastille quality slowly revealing later. The light-bodied palate opens with a burst of crisp acidity with cherry flesh and strawberry notes and a sprinkle of spice. I liked the lift and penetration of the nose and palate and whilst more evolved the ageing seems gracious with youthful vibrancy still peeking out. As it opens it there is more wild, more feral notes, a touch 'sauvage' with a peppery quality. The only downside is that it finished quite hard and thus the finish was a little blunted.
