  • As someone has already said, the richer side of Cali Pinot. Full bodied, dark and powerful with with strong raspberry scents both on the nose and palate. Quite funky and although this kept opening up through the evening my sense is that this is at prime time right now.

    Why am I not being more generous with my score? It just seems to lack the freshness and lift I'm looking for. A bit like a teenager who dresses like a middle aged man - old before its time. Perfectly decent juice, but I don't really see much upside from here.

  • This is a big Californian Pinot. Sadly, I opened this too early. It has years ahead. Very dark and powerful. The individual components have yet to fall into place. Very fine tannins but still plenty of grip. Black cherry and ripe raspberry dominate the nose. I can appreciate the effort that has gone into making this wine, but this is too bold for me.

  • Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including acclaim.

    ≈75 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed; A *very* small amt of very, VERY fine sediment noted; Private Preserve after Day 1;

    Bottle #6832 of 32 barrels

    N: Blk cherries, poss blk rasps with notes of spice & a touch of something herbal

    P: MF body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which seamlessly evolves into a very LONG, balanced finish with a tangy/swtness (60:40) to the firming, but unoffensive, very, VERY fine tannins. There's also a BIT of very, VERY fine bitterness which I feel is an asset rather than a deficit. Went well with the night's revisited Pk Chops Marsala/Mushrooms. Drinking well NOW & should continue to do so through '22, quite poss longer. My EXC-/EXC.
    // Day 3: Attractive aromatically, but today tough to parse; Med, poss LM body, Nicely lovely frt met by an astringent pucker which transitions into a LONG, tangy/swt, ult quite pleasant finish. While this went acceptably with the night's Smkd BBQ Chx (< so with the BBQ Sauce), it was quite nice with the Mujadara (Rice/Lentils/Carmelized Onions) side.
    ∑: My EXC (92,93/100 using that metric) based upon how it has held. Moreover, I'll likely not touch bottle #3/4 for at least another yr. [As of mid Aug '20, wine-searcher still shows 3 sources @ $60 & $70]

    Note: Also tasted on 7/1/17 & 3/10/18.

  • Had just tasted this a few weeks ago and the significant other opened this blind as I cooked up some lobster fried rice.
    Great ball of Fire this is good. I put a teensy bit of ginger and green garlic in the LFR and this wine sang at the pairing. Very surprising.
