  • One hour decant. Deep purple color. Aromas of black fruit, black tea and spice. Palate is deep ripe blackberry and black cherry with raspberry, chocolate and cedar notes. Tannins are polished and elegant and a nice acidity results in a long finish. Very enjoyable.

  • No score, just decided to drink on a whim, bubble gum and black licorice, some red fruit, good, not great…and this is why one should read his own prior notes before opening ; )

  • From a 375ml fresh off the truck, one of my finds on 2022 Berserker Day. On open, crushed blueberries, bourbon and oak bourbon barrels. Into the decanter.

After two hours, it was time to try this for the first time, light to medium body almost like a Pinot, somewhat translucent with a bit of bricking even at the young age of eight years old.

Still a hint of oak on the nose aNd a bit of cedar and herbs, but otherwise not giving very much. On the palate, this is more Bordeaux than Washington, a classically restrained wine, medicinal cherry, touch of spice, still a tannic backbone and an acidic sharp finish that tells me this has plenty of life left and would do well to go with food. And it did, a Flannery filet opened thisbeauty up even more, exposing the fruit I’d been wanting to see.

I couldn’t imagine drinking one of these with less than 12 yrs of bottle age and then I think 15 is about right. Consistent with other notes and musings on WB. Assuming a 1.5x aging curve for 375 ml vs 750 ml, I’ll try my other two 375s in 2024 and 2026. I have 2018 375 ml that will need a long slumber.

  • The nose showed a mix of ripe blueberry and blackberry, with hints of vanilla, fresh tobacco, cooling herbal tones and a dusting of sweet spice. On the palate, I found creamy textures, remaining vibrant as a wave of brisk acids swept across the senses, leaving zesty spice, hints of sweet citrus, black tea, blackberry and minerals. The finish was long, with grippy tannin, yet also quite enjoyable, due to its vibrant acids and primary blue and black fruit. The '14 is beautiful already, yet has years of maturity ahead of it.

  • The nose was intense, with a mix of crushed blackberry, tart cherry, currant and savory-peppery spice, with sweet floral tones and hints of smoke developing over time. On the palate, I found silky textures with medium-weight, giving way to notes of ripe black and blue fruits complemented by sweet herbal tones, cola and tobacco. It's acidity was on point, balancing out the ripe nature of the vintage and adding freshness, as fine tannins permeated the senses. The finish was long with tannins taking hold, yet a farewell burst of ripe blackberry and sweet herbs carried the Camerata's structure through the finale.

    Full Pull House Style, 12/7/2017

(Cadence Camerata Cara Mia Vineyard) Hello friends. A true house style can be elusive for many wineries. Trends ebb and flow, vintage conditions affect available grapes, staff changes—there are hundreds of reasons why a winery might find themselves without a consistent vision. However, a well-executed house style is incredibly important for any winery that wants to succeed. In our corner of the world, a house style sets wineries apart in a sea of stand-out Washington wines; it allows consumers to purchase wine with confidence, knowing exactly what to expect from a bottle they haven’t tasted. Ben Smith has mastered the art of a house style with Cadence, creating a vineyard-focused bordeaux lineup that is consistent year in and year out. His house style focuses on three components: textural elegance, carefully-tended structure, and finely-tuned balance. This style allows Cadence to hyper focus on creating high-quality, delightfully ageable wines from three vineyards on Red Mountain. We’re here today with new releases of two Cadence single-vineyard wines, and a bonus reoffer of the winery’s best-priced bottling, with new reviews and press.See key for # of bottles currently available.
