Tasted before the Baker Ranch 2015 Anthill, and this one was a lot smoother and more elegant (a touch less acidic and more well integrated oak), and less skin contact in relation based on looking at the cork. This was unstoppable with roast pork belly and roast duck. Did not require too much aeration for it to be performing very well. A very impressive effort by Anthill, and made me re-evaluate California Pinot Noir as a whole (despite having an even more stellar Williams Selyem 2012 the night before). If the Baker Ranch is more structured and earthy (a little Pommard like), then Comptche Ridge is more feminine and elegant in relation despite the one year gap in vintage. It was a lot of fun tasting expressions of Californian terroir in that sense.

Black cherries, spice, rhubarb, orange peel on the nose. Tart cherry flavors accented by anise seed, pomegranate and floral notes. Quite lovely, energetic and refined.

Opened another of these five months after my last tasting. Agree with the last notes and score. This is an excellent lighter style Pinot with bright strawberry and herbal (almost grassy) flavors. I wish I had more...and luckily I do.

this was drinking great. DEveloping some nice complexity, but still pretty structured, so no rush either

Light bodied, which this Mendocino site doesn’t always seem to produce. Extremely fresh. Sour cherries. Perfumed. Juicy acid.
