Excellent, deep purple color, nice legs, light sediment in the bottle, aromas: blackberry, strawberry and vanilla. Flavors: blackberry, cherry, plum and oak. Full bodied, smooth, nice finish.

A pair of 96s today. This wine was opened right after a 2014 Cimarossa Il Circolo and the consensus is that this one is definitely more "ready to go" as one would imagine given that this is from the Agave Rose Vineyard on the north end of the Rutherford floor (quite close to another personal favorite of mine). A Benoit Touquette wine, this wine is packed with red dusty fruit. Smooth as a baby's rear end from start to finish, this wine is a ton and a half of black cherry baking spices, dirty bing cherries, a little gravelly, with some espresso bean and fruitcake spice. The finish shows a bit of black pepper but the tannins are rounding out and really danced nicely with the chicken fajitas and spicy guacamole - more in synergy than competition (which I think Rutherford wines do probably better than any other AVA in Napa on a whole). This wine is singing. Right in the wheelhouse at this moment and probably will be for a while. I really don't think I missed out by not decanting this one. Drink or hold 5-7 years.

This intriguing Cabernet offers a compelling layer to Benoit Tocquette's typical (and lovely) wine - it has the round and silky mouthfeel he shows with Realm and Fait-Main, but it adds some dustiness and tartness to make the wine seem a bit more fresh and savory. I think this wine needs a little more time, but it may be impressive in a year or two.
Dark purple in color, medium in body, nose of raspberry, graphite, and cedar. Tastes of black cherry, boysenberry, gravel, and straw, with a layered finish that carries more tartness (e.g., sour cherry) than tannin. 14.5% alcohol. On the second day, it was more juicy but less focused. Unlike many of Benoit's 2013's, this needs some time to unwind; my guess is that it will be better in a year or two.
This reminded me most of the Kata wines, though I believe this is 100% Cabernet. In the world of Benoit wines priced under $100, this comes in second to Hartwell, in my mind. The Jack Quinn had the ripeness and polish, but it didn't quite have the depth of the Hartwell wines. I think the Jack Quinn was more serious than his other sub-$100 efforts (e.g., Familiar Air, Teeter Totter), which are good - but less interesting than this wine.
