Here's a relatively full-bodied Beaujolais from Brouilly that's pretty much at the opposite end of the Gamay / regional spectrum from the alcoholic juice known as "Beaujolais Nouveau." It's earthy and mushroomy, heavy on umami, lifted by fresh cherry and raspberry, with ample minerality adding to its generally savoury nature, and with a lively, almost spritzy finish that also complements the earthiness. Given the aromatic restraint and rather firm tannins, I'd say this could use another couple of years to reveal its fullness. As it is now, there just isn't all that much complexity, and perhaps there isn't much more to reveal anyway.

Black berry and cherry with allspice and cloves. Good richness to start with a faint sweet note that persists through finish. Good for near-term enjoyment.

Quite a successful 2015. The succulent fruit is on the sweeter side, but it is not stewed or raisiny, there is some floral lift, alcohol is in check (just) at 14% ABV, there is a gentle freshness and the mild tannins are ripe. A savoury touch adds interest on the palate. There’s a smoky note on the finish - good length. Attractive.

Dark cranberry aromas. Dark cranberry palate. Medium plus acid, light tannin. Has stucture, but missing some distinction.
