100% syrah from boutique winery in Swartland, South Africa from limestone dominated terroir. Very nice approach of white pepper, mineral, spices, black fruits and earthy ash? Complex in aromas and soft tannines, great length and keeps coming back. Hand of a great winemaker is obvious: to make a fresh tasting syrah w low alcohol (13.5%) and great minerality is an absolute art! Big big wine!

The Mullineux Schist Syrah is a well-made and elegant Syrah in the context of South African wine, but uncomplicated and missing some depth I would expect at £70 price point. Tasted blind - A clean and homogenised nose of fresh mixed fruits, rose petal, dark juicy plums and hints of cocoa. Smooth tannins and adequate acidity to balance out the ripeness. Simply expressive and quaffable. The heat and sunshine brought me to South of France blend? (81/100)

A challenging year in South Africa. However, this is superb. Rich syrah/shiraz. Still too young really, by 5+ years. Ripe, lush syrah with everything you'd expect from it, except it's a bit chakly and chewy at the moment, and a bit buttoned-up . Sort of somewhere between Barossa shiraz and a riper Cote Rotie. For sheer hedonistic ripeness I think this is beaten by other nearby estates, but with the requisite age this will be very special and has the nuances needed for that.
I have purchased more of the 2015, which should be better.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #047:Shiraz/Syrah, Australia, France and South Africa. (By AG): Smoky and concentrated bouquet with dark berries like blackberries and spices. On the palate juicy fruits, chocolate, good acidity and mild tannin.

Incredible wine. Traces of licorice and mint on an elegant basis. Mild acidity. Slightly closed at the moment but still great aromas.
