  • Still a somewhat deep purple colour, with just a faint hint of browning at the rim.

Attractive nose, with some plum/blackcurrant fruit, pencil shavings and faint green pepper.

On the palate it's a little bigger than medium bodied, but far from being a bruiser. Acidity is assertive enough to bring freshness to what is otherwise quite a rounded wine (with a faintly liquer-like quality), with faint residual tannins going almost unnoticed. The fruit is still fairly youthful, but it does feel as if the profile is starting to shift a little towards tertiary flavours and there's also a touch of mocha in the mix.

Overall very pleasant indeed and whilst perhaps not very striking/original, it is a very approachable wine that is in a good place to drink now. A screaming bargain when picked up at under £6 and to pay up to double that should still offer value.

  • Still quite a rich purple colour, showing no age at the rim

On the nose it's more in the blackberry spectrum, with a touch of merlot plumminess and a floral (violet) aspect.

Nice tangy acidity on the palate, supporting a decent depth of fruit, with a pleasant greenish streak (in the background). No tannin to speak of.

Certainly fine to drink now, but not showing any signs of falling over. Might do up to another 5 years, but 'to 2012' probably a safer bet.

  • Still youthful purple colour of medium weight with little or no evidence of age at the rim

Relatively leafy blackcurrant bouquet, the blackcurrant being slightly liquer-like

Very juicy acidity on the palate is just a little out of balance, but would lend itself to food. A hint of parma violets on the finish which has decent length but relatively low intensity. Good, but not great, though I'd be comfortable giving this a little more cellar time to see if the acidity would soften & the wine release more aged notes.

    10 / 5.6
