Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Friday, March 17, 2000 Color of garnet and nose of violets and oak. A ripe round forward fruit with chocolate, tar and vanilla. With homemade pizza of mushrooms and bacon and another of roasted red peppers and carmelized onions. A good wine, but lacking any abilit to develop. This is a quaffer. Label says m made of Am. and Fr. Oak, but bearly detectable. Good everyday wine. Fair QPR.

Friday, April 28, 2000 same as before: bing cherry

Saturday, July 29, 2000 A dark red wine with floral notes on the nose and palate. In addition to the floral notes of violets, it exudes spice, cherry and chocolate. A suppleness and smoothness not usually found in Va. wine. However this is not nearly the wine that Barboursville made the same year just a mile down the road. 7/29/00 with bourbon grilled n. y. strips for the Tinsleys and Smileys prior to beach trip.

Monday, August 21, 2000 just not developing. single dimensional wine. with london broil...but then after the beach trip anything but bordeaux or burgandy would be a step down.
Saturday, September 09, 2000 with Dave, Robin, Kay and Steve on the Mountain at Fiddler’s Roost with rib eyes, potatoes and choc. pecan pie.

Friday, March 23, 2001 Somewhat light in color turning a tad brickish at the edge. Nose of berries, violets, spice, oak and something a little funky, perhaps bacon fat. A surprisingly nice nose. On the palate, the wine showed berries and spice with a little smokiness. No midpalate of which to speak. The finish was short but with flavors of spice, earth and meatiness. The wine accentuated the bacon flavors of the meal. An enjoyable wine, but not complicated or thought provoking. With olive bread, brie, sauteed mushrooms and bacon. 3/23/01. (Note: no chocolate noted this time; previous two times chocolate was noted.)

Saturday, May 26, 2001 not bad. A little raspberry and spice on the palate. Lighter weight than I would like. As good as it will get. No use holding back on the others.

Monday, June 25, 2001 Violets on the nose, spicey oak and earth on the palate; with a sliight note of green olive. Not a bit of age noticed on the wine. Good for the modest wine that it is. With pork roast marinaded in borboun, brown sugar and oil and served with a mustard and sour cream sauce 6/25/01.

Friday, March 21, 2003 Spice, blackberry and leather on the nose and palate. Good balance. Kinda smokie quality to it. Fairly one dimensional. Nice backbone with evident, somewhat fine, tannins. Blended with Tannat, so the label says. 13% alc. With cheeses and duck pate.

Friday, June 18, 2004 My last of this wine. A very nice cab franc with good smoke, cherry/sandlewood flavors. sorry this is the last of this wine. Reminiscent of what Horton used to be able to do. With flank steak over mixed greens.
