  • My initial impression when tasting it unaccompanied was rather underwhelming; rather austere, tannic and lacking fruit. When paired with some calves liver though this came alive and was vibrant, refreshing and subtle, in fact very nicely balanced. The fruit came to the fore too, with flavours of liquorice, raspberry and cherry. CHP 88pts

  • A little traditional, perhaps more old-school, this was herbaceous a touch stalky and spicy and whilst sacrificing a little fruit this had a super structure and length with pleasing tannins and spice. I think this has matured exceedingly well and is now really in its stride. A vast improvement on my last bottle and much more like it. CHP 89pts

  • Dry and savoury, the acidic bite and tannins were still present, but what happened to the fruit, the intensity of flavour the development of richness and texture on the palate, secondary flavours or even a pleasing finish? I’d kept this back having tasted a bottle a good few years ago when I thought it would mature well. Although there were no signs of oxidation it was simply underwhelming and bang average. Mea culpa, I’ve hung onto this for far too long. CHP 80 pts
