The tannins are not resolving into a firm structural backbone but instead remain hard, unassimilated, and unpleasant. This is a powerful wine that time will improve, but age will not erase the fundamental disharmony in its composition. Good, but second rank, at best.

Drinking quite nicely, the nose shows some dark cherry, currants and plum with old leaves and tobacco. On a pop and pour the wine was immediately friendly, showing soft flavors similar to the nose as well as some wet stones. 4+ hours in and this started to harden up, showing firmer tannin than initially which I thought was a little strange. Still, overall a really nice bottle of wine.

Raspberry and currant with good underlying acidity. Medium bodied, with nicely integrated tannins, decent length. Drinking very well right now. A solid example of merlot.

Decanted 3 hours. It didn't have the buttery finish like the last bottle. From the initial open until the first pour, the nose had a red fruit throughout. The palate was a little on the lighter side with just hints of red fruit.
