  • Singing. Only complaint is maybe a touch of alcohol on the nose. On the palate the middle has a beautiful core of fruit creating a very long finish. A very beautiful wine overall

  • 2 hour decant. No one has reviewed this wine since my last offering a year ago. Hopefully I can understand why. This bottle was in a "meh" state. No hard edges just no reason to take notice. Shoulda waited, but maybe there is no dramatic future here.

  • Decanted for 90 minutes then consumed over three hours. This bottle should end up in a very good place, but for now the fruit shares center stage with structure. Both acid and tannin remain too pronounced on the battlefield thus the fruit, both impressive and integrating, cannot claim star billing. The result is a swallow that is short of satisfying but with time to get there.

  • One of Csimm's contributions to CTer get together at Aziza with WineBurrowingWombat, me and significant others; a great night of food, wine and conversation. PnP. Beautiful nose with a great core of dark fruit, wet and dry earth, graphite and spice. Just a bit rough initially with a strong tannic backbone, but great integration after about 30 minutes. Dark, medium to full-bodied, thick legs. Very good persistence, good complexity, no heat. Medium++ tannins and acidity. Much like my note on the '12 Ovid we drank alongside it, this is a cult cab for the cult cab-skeptical with really lovely structure and a great match for richer foods but not too overwhelming with heavily seasoned or lighter foods. I concur with csimm that the acidity seemed to become more noticeable on the back end of this wine at the end of the evening (subject to the provisos that it wasn't as distracting to me and blah blah blah palate fatigue), but there was no indication that this wine is anything other than right in the middle of its prime drinking window and should remain so for quite some time. On most nights, for this wine drinker with less rarefied tastes and a somewhat constrained wine budget, this wine mounts the top of the medal pedestal, but on this night, the Ovid blew it away, not because this wine is anything less than excellent, but because the Ovid was extraordinary. 95++, with possible upside.

  • Blackberry, blueberry, earth, river rock, and pulverized granite. This started off as many 2014s do with a giving amount of fruit and flavor on the front end. Finished plump and ripe (but balanced on the back end for the first hour or so). However, I picked up a bit of a graphite-meets-twiggy bitterness on the tail after some air in the glass that took the focus away from the ultimate excution and flavor expansion on this wine. Started out in the 95+ range and ended up in the 92-93 range for me. Split the difference at 94-ish points for now. Still best to hold off a little longer and hope the notion of 'integration' plays better into this wine after a year or two.

Next to an Ovid 2012, the FM showed a little less comparative class and sophistication. The 2014 FM is a 'good' wine, but it lacks some of the emotional connection I wanted compared to other vintages of FM LPV. "It's not you, it's me" played into my head as I drank the latter half of this wine... but it kinda was 'you'........
