  • This medium-deep golden colored dry Spätlese has on the nose pronounced aromas of passion fruit, peach, pink grape fruit, lemon, green apple, linden blossom, little caramel. On the palate the flavors are similar to the nose. They are also pronounced. There is a saltiness on the palate. The acidity is high. The body is medium and the finish is very long. This Müllen Riesling is at the beginning of its drinking window. I guess that it will age well over the next 15 years. Glass I used: Zalto Universal

  • Showing some ripeness (colour and nose), fresher on the palate, some floral slate, Quince, candied fruit, some herbal notes, dense and multilayered, medium acidity and some residual sugar, very good length

  • A dark golden color gave me concern about possible oxidation. I can report it is not oxidized, but it is well matured. Hints of sweetness abound, but is dry on the aftertaste. Notes of stone fruits, grapefruit, and raspberries, leaving a decidedly tingling sensation on the tongue. A lovely wine.

  • Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: First 2022 Tasting: Glass: Zalto Universal
Popped and poured, drunk over three days. 1st day blind. Clear, medium lemon color. Clean, medium intense, youthful nose. Grapes, fresh lime, herbs, tangerine. Youthful, ethereal and complex.
Mosel dry, high, ripe acidity. Only 12% abv. Lots of lime and grape juice mixed with cassis and other red berries. Great mineral core and lots of extract. Fresh, elegant and dense, beautiful tension. Long, complex finish. Has at least a decade of upscale potential. 93+

After seeing Diane K post a recent note I thought I’d check in on this wine, one of my favorites from Martin Müllen. Right out the gate there is an elegant and playful nose of orange peel, orange blossom, grapefruit pith, dried pear and apricot, fresh-cut herbs, and stony minerals. The palate has mostly dried orange citrus with a touch of ripe stone fruit in the background, giving the wine just a slight perception of sweetness, leading into zesty acids and stony/slate minerals. The mineral notes linger on and on until the next sip.

I think this is at peak development, and should have a nice 10-15 year drinking window ahead of it. Delicious!
