  • Lafon's 1994 Charmes is drinking beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of confit orchard fruit, lemon oil, iodine and chamomile, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave palate that exhibits exceptional tension and structure for the vintage, its core of ripe fruit fully intact and framed by chalky structuring extract. This is a definite over-performer that's in its prime today.

  • Golden tinged and viscous in appearance. Ripe and round with good weight and mouthfeel. Rich, ripe fruit with some slight tropical notes and a hint of butterscotch but not quite into the nutty stage yet. Fairly straight forward with little secondary flavors. A litle hot on the finish. This just does not have the quality of fruit and complexity of a top year. Good immediate charm that accompanies scalops well as a good Meursault should. Nice wine but not great. Just a bit short on complexity and length.
