  • Tasted next to the ‘89 Vaillons, which I preferred to the Chapelot. Nevertheless, this has a rich style with a beautiful finish. Slightly oxidized, but still drinking well. Touch of caramel and honey.

  • From an outstanding looking bottle, this wine had a brilliant, deep yellow center and clear rims. After 3 hours, the high- intensity nose boomed out almond paste, citrus, pear, honey, and white stone. Wow!

In the mouth, this was ripe and rich with riveting acidity and fantastic length. While perfectly balanced, this had all the drama one could ask for in Chablis.

This bottle was clearly Grand Cru quality and at its peak. While it will last 10 years or so, why wait?

  • From a nice looking bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose was classic Ravenneau with its lemon zest, honey, apple, and white stone nose.

In the mouth, this was impressive at first but then the volume went down as it aired. After about 2 hours, the volume started moving up again. This wine was ripe and rich in the mouth with huge acidity and great length. It developed excellent balance.

This wine is doing very well. It can be consumed now but it will easily last 10 years. This was arguably 95 point quality.

  • Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose showed lemons, apples, honeysuckle flowers, and some white stone.

This wine had a great richness in the mouth and yet it also conveyed a sense of tasting dry limestone rock, all at the same time. It was sappy, crisp, and quite long. It got better and better in the glass, suggesting that it needed a ton of air.

While drinking well, this wine will easily last 10 years. This bottle was in great shape!

  • While this bottle looked to be in good shape, I opened it because the wine looked a touch darker than other bottles. In fact, the wine had a light gold center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose offered up lemon custard, white stone, vanilla, and some maple syrup.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with crisp acidity and great length. This bottle was clearly not quite perfectly stored as it showed a bit more age than it should. However, it was still quite good.

While this bottle had started on the downhill slope, other bottles are still on the upswing. In any event, they are always fun to drink!
